Let's get started!!!!

Hi everyone!!!  Hope everyone is doing well today!!  Like I have said before that the reason I have set this up is due to the fact that I have a project due for school!  I chose this topic because I still see small children riding in cars that are not in car seats, and some that are in them but laying there, not buckled in the way they are suppose to be.  I still can not figure out why people wont put their children in a car seat that they need to in.......can you all add your opinion to this?  Let's keep this going.

  1. I believe that no matter how young they are a child should be in a carseat. I think that by law all children until age 7 or 8 or until able to touch the floor boards. I beleive in this because this way a child will be safe in the vehicle. I also think that a child should not be in the front seat until 14 or older because of the air bags safety reasons, and u never know what can happen whwen ur in a front seat. I think that there should be tickets and fines if any age of child is not properly child restrainted or in a seat bealt. It is more of the other drivers that can be crazy. Me myself I make sure that my child is in a carseat no matter what, even if we are in a camp ground driving to the beach and back he will still be restrainted in so that he is safe. I have heard and read too many stories with childeren getting hurt too bad with out being in a carseat.

  2. Jamie it has been years since mine have needed a car seat, but I agree they are a must!! We has the infant version, then a bugger one that took them through toddler years, and then the booster version. A lot of people think age five is the proper age to no longer use a car seat. In fact they child must weigh more than 50lbs and even then that is not good enough to allow them to sit in the front seat. Until your child is tall enough to sit up front properly seatbelted in, he/she is not safe from the airbag or the shoulder strap causing serious injury during a wreck. That's my thoughts on the importance and need of child car seats! Lisa

  3. Hi Jamie,

Child seats should be mandatory in every state!! I always used child safety seats with my children, even past the time they were required by law. I kept my children in safety seats until they were too big for them, then I would switch to a bigger size (infant to toddler, toddler to booster). Age was never a factor for keeping my child in a safety seat. I have a daughter that is a really small person, even for her age, she stayed in a booster seat until she was 10. She is 14 now and is still not allowed to sit in the front seat because she is small and quite frankly not big enough to survive an accident. On the other side of that, I have a 13 year old that stands nearly six feet tall and weighs about 180 lbs. He is bigger than I am. I also think that when children are not properly restrained that in addition to fines and legal punishments that Child Protective Services should be called on the parents. Safety seats are for the protection of the child, which is the parents' responsibility, if they are not properly restraining their child, they are not properly protecting their child and it should be looked into. If they are ignoring that important factor to caring for their child, what else are they not doing that their child needs them to do? I think this is a great subject that our government should take more seriously than they do. It should be re-evaluated and the laws tightened down on. If parents are held more accountable, they will at the least follow the laws better. Great subject Jamie. I wish you the best with your project!

  4. I so agree with all three of you. The most important thing to me is to keep my children safe. I have a 15 year old and a three year old and my three year old has learnt that when I open the car door, he goes straight for the car seat. I think that is something that we need to install in our children at a very young age so that it will follow them thru their intire life!!

  5. Hi everyone!! As I sit here I think back to when our daughter was born and when our son was born and how different the car seats were from those two different times. The more the years go by the more that things change. Seems like things could slow down a bit. Im just saying.....

  6. Hi everyone!! Just wanted to see how everyone was doing. Me and my sister have been having a few conversations about how old you children have to be before they can sit in booster seats. What is the right age age that you think a child should be able to sit in a booster seat?
